AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Pakistani official has raised the alarm about an imminent Indian military strike, emphasizing that Islamabad is fully prepared to respond with decisive force if attacked. Faisal Kundi, a close advisor to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, shared in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher on Wednesday that credible intelligence suggests an Indian assault may occur within hours or days.
Highlighting Pakistan’s readiness, Kundi stated, “Our weapons are not for display in museums; they are for defending our country.” His remarks follow escalating tensions between the neighbors after a deadly April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which left 26 civilians dead, mostly Hindu tourists. Pakistan has denied involvement in the incident and called for an impartial international investigation into the matter, dismissing allegations as baseless and unsupported by evidence.
Since the attack, India has taken several provocative measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, a decades-old water-sharing agreement, and imposing other actions perceived as damaging to regional stability. In response, Pakistan has retaliated by closing its airspace to Indian flights.
Prime Minister Sharif has also engaged with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, voicing concerns over India’s “provocative and escalatory stance” and urging international intervention to prevent further deterioration in relations. Meanwhile, the United Nations and other international organizations have expressed deep concern over the situation, calling for restraint and dialogue to avoid an unintended escalation that could spiral into a broader regional conflict.
